"There is an extremely small probability that if all of the thrusters fail, the Starliner could impact the ISS," former US military Space System Commander Rudy Ridolfi told DailyMail.com.
"I would say no," Harvard University astronomer and astrophysicist Jonathan McDowell told DailyMail.com. "Although NASA and Boeing have identified overheating as a likely source of the issues, they still don't really fully understand why the thrusters are behaving the way they are."
"This will be like NASCAR for NASA, some watch just for the crash," Ridolfi added, highlighting the risky nature of the impending undock after thruster failures.
