The upcoming coronal mass ejection (CME) from the sun is expected to reach Earth on Wednesday, potentially causing a minor geomagnetic storm classified as G1 by NOAA.
NOAA predicts that this G1 storm will have only a slight risk of impacting infrastructure at high latitudes, affecting cellphone towers and satellites.
Geomagnetic storms are more common around the equinoxes as Earth’s magnetosphere aligns with the sun’s magnetic field, allowing for a more direct impact of solar events.
