Artemis II astronaut sends subtle message back to Earth
"From the cabin of Integrity, as we surpass the farthest distance humans have ever traveled from planet Earth, we do so in honor of the extraordinary efforts and achievements of those who came before us in human space exploration."
"We will continue our journey even farther before Mother Earth succeeds in pulling us back to everything we hold dear, but we must use this moment to challenge this generation and the next to ensure this record is not long-lived."
The Artemis II crew, consisting of NASA astronauts Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Canadian astronaut Jeremy Hansen, reached a record distance of 252,757 miles from Earth. This surpassed the previous record set by Apollo 13. Wiseman sent a heartfelt message to his family and honored past achievements in space exploration. The crew also named a crater on the moon after Wiseman's late wife and prepared to view the Moon's far side and a solar eclipse during their mission.
