A pair of DeepMind researchers have won the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry

This year's Nobel Prize in Chemistry highlights breakthroughs in protein understanding, with the award going to David Baker for computational protein design and to DeepMind's Demis Hassabis and John Jumper for protein structure prediction through AI.

DeepMind's AlphaFold 2 represents a significant leap forward in predicting how proteins fold, a task scientists have pursued since the 1970s, and has successfully modeled 200 million proteins to date.
