"NASA is cutting short a mission at the International Space Station due to a medical issue with a crew member. The agency is planning to return all four members of the Crew-11 mission more than a month early. NASA administrator Jared Isaacman said the crew would return to Earth "in the coming days." NASA did not disclose the name of the crewmember or the ailment, citing health privacy. Isaacman described it as a "serious medical condition.""
"Two NASA astronauts, Mike Fincke and Zena Cardman, were supposed to venture outside the orbiting lab and update the station's power system. The additional power from new solar panels would help safely deorbit the station upon its retirement in 2030. The two NASA astronauts, along with a Japanese Space Station astronaut and Russian Space Agency Cosmonaut, are members of NASA's Crew-11 mission which launched to the space station from Florida's Kennedy Space Center August 1, 2025 on a SpaceX Crew Dragon capsule."
NASA will return all four Crew-11 members to Earth more than a month early because a crewmember has a serious medical condition. The decision canceled a planned spacewalk meant to update the station’s power system and install new solar panels that would help safely deorbit the station at retirement in 2030. Crew-11 launched August 1, 2025 on a SpaceX Crew Dragon from Kennedy Space Center and includes NASA astronauts Mike Fincke and Zena Cardman, a Japanese astronaut, and a Russian cosmonaut. Leadership across NASA, with input from flight surgeons, prioritized the crewmember’s safety in making the return decision. The next crew rotation is scheduled to launch next month.
