Huge sea creature entangled in trap for months finally set free in California
Briefly

Check, a humpback whale who was entangled in crab trap lines for six months, was successfully rescued by Californian marine rescuers. The whale, part of an endangered species, was initially spotted in October and later re-sighted in March. Due to poor weather and safety concerns with five other whales nearby, rescue efforts were hampered until a favorable weather window allowed a team from the Marine Mammal Center to carry out the operation. After a challenging rescue, Check was freed, and officials plan to monitor its recovery over the upcoming months.
The whale was spotted in Pacific Grove, and rescuers grabbed the entangled line as the whale towed them while they cut the ropes, officials said.
When you make that final cut suddenly you are not moving with the whale anymore and you feel it right away, Peggy Stap, executive director of Marine Life Studies said.
