SF Giants place Schmitt on injured list with left hand inflammation
Briefly

The Giants placed infielder Casey Schmitt on the 10-day injured list due to left hand inflammation. Schmitt sustained the injury from a pitch and although his MRI was clean, he was scratched from the lineup. Manager Bob Melvin indicated Schmitt may return soon. Schmitt had been performing well with a .375 batting average and four home runs in 14 games, positioning himself as a potential starting second baseman. Christian Koss will start at third base while both Schmitt and another player, Chapman, are out.
Schmitt had a slash line of .375/.444/.646 with four home runs and 12 RBIs while playing above-average defense at third base.
The team announced that they placed infielder Casey Schmitt on the 10-day injured list with left hand inflammation.
Melvin said it's possible that Schmitt spends the minimum amount of time on the injured list before returning.
Koss will continue starting at third base for the time being with Chapman and Schmitt both out.
