SF Giants option Harrison, leaving Birdsong, Roupp as finalists for fifth rotation spot
Briefly

The Giants have opted to send Kyle Harrison to the minor leagues, leaving Hayden Birdsong and Landen Roupp to vie for the fifth spot in their starting rotation. Harrison, the Giants' top pitching prospect, faced challenges this spring due to illness, which hindered his preparation and participation in games compared to Birdsong and Roupp. Manager Bob Melvin stated Harrison's condition prevented him from actively competing for the spot, and he emphasized the need for Harrison to regain momentum and innings before rejoining the rotation.
‘We just need to get him up to speed and get him more innings and get him stretched out longer in games,’ manager Bob Melvin said.
‘I think Kyle was kind of lumped into that, but kind of unfairly because he was behind in his progression,’ Melvin added.
