Corbin Burnes, a four-time All-Star and the 2021 NL Cy Young winner, has signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks for a $210 million contract over six years.
The Giants, who had pursued Burnes actively this offseason, fell short again, as negotiations devolved into accusatory leaks amid competing offers.
Despite the Giants and Blue Jays offering more money, Burnes was swayed by Arizona’s lower taxes and personal reasons, including his family’s recent changes.
With Burnes' signing, the Giants continue to struggle in attracting marquee free agents, joining a list that notably includes Aaron Judge and Shohei Ohtani.
