The Oakland Coliseum erupted with excitement on March 22, 2025, as the Oakland Roots celebrated their home opener with a record 26,575 attendees. This event marked the highest single-game attendance for active United Soccer League franchises. Fans enjoyed tailgating, live music, and the vibrant atmosphere, bolstered by local celebrities and political figures. The Roots, who have built a dedicated following since their inception in 2018 and overcame challenges like the pandemic, have transformed the Coliseum into a cultural hub, emphasizing its historical significance to Oakland's sports history.
"It's awesome for the Roots to bring the vibes back to the Coliseum," said Jorge Ixta, a Roots fan since the team started in Oakland in 2018.
"This is our Coliseum of gladiators. This is our epicenter of culture in the East Bay. I came here since I was a little kid... It's a historic place for us," Rafael Casal said.
