The NFL and NFL Players Association are implementing a new "Strike" device to measure field conditions, aiming to create universal guidelines for the league's 30 playing surfaces.
NFL field director Nick Pappas stated, "We're going to come up with our own performance specification document for the NFL field... ultimately it will be a regulatory document that says, 'Hey, look, an NFL field should meet these standards.'"
NFLPA executive director Lloyd Howell emphasized the need to convert the league's 15 artificial turf surfaces to grass, citing player concerns over injury risks.
While the league has been pushed to improve surfaces, they assert that data shows little difference in lower-body injuries between natural and artificial surfaces, signaling a focus on consistency.
