Rutgers AD Pat Hobbs resigns, cites health concerns
Briefly

Pat Hobbs, the longest-tenured active athletic director in the Big Ten, resigned, citing health concerns; Ryan Pisarri steps in as interim.
In an email to school president Jonathan Holloway, Hobbs stated, 'After meeting with my cardiac team this week and having just been apprised of the results of my latest round of testing, it is clear that I cannot continue to serve as Athletic Director given the requirements of the position.' He expressed gratitude, saying it has been an 'honor and a privilege to serve with you' in reference to Chicago's athletic staff.
Hobbs emphasized the importance of prioritizing health, saying, 'I recognize this is not the ideal timeframe to depart, however, other factors need to take precedence.' His leaving marks a significant change for Rutgers athletics, occurring after guiding men's basketball to NCAA tournament appearances.
Under Hobbs's tenure, Rutgers improved in multiple sports. He hired Steve Pikiell for men's basketball in 2016, leading Rutgers to its first back-to-back NCAA tournament bids since 1975-76. He also facilitated Greg Schiano’s return to football in 2020, emphasizing the transformative impact of these hires.
