"After I got hurt, I called my wife and was like, 'Well, that's it. We're hanging 'em up,'" McGovern recalled, expressing his initial thoughts on retirement due to his severe injury.
"If or when this team goes to the playoffs and if I wasn't helping in some capacity, I'd be pretty disappointed that I didn't seize any opportunity," McGovern stated, emphasizing his desire to contribute.
"They're not exactly throwing me to the wolves," he said, discussing his position as an experienced player stepping back into a team context.
McGovern revealed his uncertainty about his future, saying, 'Even though I rehabbed my injury and stayed in shape, I didn’t know for sure that I’d continue with my career.'
