Opinion | America Loves a Coach. Should We Vote for One?
Briefly

Before Gov. Tim Walz became the most famous person in America to coach high school football, there was Eric Taylor. Coach Taylor was sensitive. He put his players first. He could motivate without screaming and denigrating. He took a back seat to his wife's career. He's the embodiment of the ideal high school coach: empathetic, humane, with a drive to win but compassion after a loss.
If coaching experience was the only criterion in running for vice president, Coach Taylor would be the hands-down choice. However, he's a fictional character from Friday Night Lights, played by Kyle Chandler. The idealized portrayal of a coach captures the essence of small-town pride and the rising expectations placed on those who guide teenage boys through their formative years.
