The San Francisco 49ers' wide receiver corps is experiencing significant injuries as the season approaches. Ricky Pearsall recently returned from the PUP list, while Jauan Jennings suffered a calf injury during practice. Jacob Cowing is also expected to miss time with a hamstring issue. These injuries have led to an ever-changing practice field where the nine healthy receivers can showcase their skills. Offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak noted that while a consistent receiving group is ideal for the quarterback, having a rotating roster can also provide valuable experience for developing players.
Before Sunday's session was complete, Jennings had departed with a calf injury that has kept him out since. Pearsall practiced Monday but had a scheduled day off Tuesday.
Suffice it to say for the nine healthy receivers on the roster, San Francisco's practice field is a land of opportunity.
Obviously, for the quarterback you want to have a consistent group out there, but it can be good for the quarterbacks too, to have a revolving door because the quarterback just has to play.
Brandon Aiyuk, who is recovering from torn ligaments in his right knee, watched intently and offered encouragement from the side.
