State bill that allows police to enforce street vending regulations advances in Senate
Briefly

Sen. Scott Wiener's legislation, SB 276, seeks to amend previous laws regarding street vending in San Francisco, which were meant to reduce police involvement in enforcement. This new measure follows the failure of his earlier proposal, SB 925, and aims to address the chaos seen in street vending post-pandemic. With unanimous support from state senators, SB 276 will now progress to the State Assembly for further review, with emphasis on combating illegal sales of stolen goods while supporting local vendors.
"With the Mayor's leadership we've seen terrific progress improving San Francisco's streets, but the sale of stolen goods is still presenting real challenges," said Wiener in a press release shortly after the vote.
"SB 276 will uplift our city's vendors and merchants, while helping us prevent dangerous and illegal reselling of stolen goods. This bill will keep our city and our communities safer," said Lurie in the same press release.
