SFO tracks traveler confusion following OAK name change
Briefly

"While we have had past anecdotes of passengers showing up at the wrong airport, we are currently seeing evidence of confusion that we have not seen before," Doug Yakel stated. He expressed concerns that the recently changed name of Oakland International Airport may lead to an increase in mistaken arrivals, which has already been recorded in unprecedented numbers this summer at SFO. This confusion raises questions regarding passenger awareness and airport branding as travel resumes.
Danny Wan, the Port's executive director, defended the name change at a public meeting saying, "I fail to see the confusion. .... It clarifies to the world that OAK is on the San Francisco Bay. It does not confuse and leads to more nonstop option choices at the airport." His comments suggest that the name change aims to enhance OAK's identity and passenger travel options rather than confuse travelers.
