The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency is considering a 4% service cut to multiple Muni routes as a response to a $50 million budget shortfall. Proposed changes include eliminating weekday service beyond Market Street for several routes and requiring transfers for certain lines. Officials acknowledge that cuts may reduce ridership and erode trust in the agency, with mixed community feedback on priorities for transit service. Despite opposition, the agency asserts the plan represents a compromise to reduce cuts and minimize impacts.
Muni service cuts are expected this summer. This is not what we want to do. We understand the outcomes this will have for the community.
If we were to cut service, it makes the job harder because the popularity of the agency takes a hit. Our trust is eroded.
