Photographer celebrates San Francisco's rainbow of colors
Briefly

Photographer Travis Monson captures San Francisco's beauty through vibrant color collages on Instagram. After moving to the city at 19, he became enamored with its eclectic neighborhoods and unique character. Inspired by his experiences, he walked every street from 2011 to 2016, documenting the details that make the city special. The COVID-19 pandemic provided him with an opportunity to organize his vast collection of images, leading him to create engaging color collages that encourage others to appreciate the hidden beauty in San Francisco.
Each neighborhood offers something different, from bustling city blocks to quieter streets, and it's the little things - the colorful facades, quirky styles, and transforming alleyway murals - that truly make San Francisco special. I never tire of capturing it.
My first job that I landed was as a cheese monger at Cowgirl Creamery in the Ferry Building. It was such a unique experience that helped me connect with the city in a meaningful way.
I hope my photography inspires others to see San Francisco with fresh eyes - to notice the hidden gems, small details, and beauty that often go overlooked.
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit in 2020, Monson found himself with extra time and started organizing his images by color. After finding some templates online, he began creating collages of his photos based on color.
