PG&E Upgrades to Boost Downtown Development
Briefly

PG&E is initiating major upgrades to two crucial substations in Downtown San Jose, namely Substation A and Substation B. These enhancements are crucial for accommodating increased energy demands driven by a surge in technology, housing, and commercial activities. Notably, Substation A will support the Net Zero Initiative and expansion of public transit while facilitating Google’s mixed-use project. Conversely, Substation B's upgrades will add 1,000 megawatts of capacity, essential for new data centers and urban growth, ultimately bolstering San Jose's economic development and making it a more attractive destination for business and residents.
These upgrades mean more than just better electricity-they're a launchpad for San Jose's economic rise. With a stronger grid, the city can welcome bold projects.
The work at Substation A is especially exciting...it will also support the shift toward electric homes and vehicles, playing a key role in Google's transit village.
