Mary Kathleen Monihan, 83, passed away peacefully at home in April 2025. A San Francisco native and resident of San Carlos, she was deeply passionate about family, social justice, and generosity, often asking others how she could help. Throughout her 37-year nursing career, Mary worked at Sequoia Hospital and was known for her mentorship and role as a loving matriarch who gathered her family and friends around a table filled with food and laughter. A lover of her city and gardening, Mary's legacy lives on through her dedication to service and compassion for others.
Mary's passion for life, family, and social justice was contagious and shined through every aspect of her life. Her generosity knew no bounds.
With her passion for social justice, Mary helped us all look at our communities with an eye for service, always asking, 'How can I help?'
To many of us, she was a role model; her ability to turn her living room into an extra-large dining room was a testament to her love for gatherings.
Mary enjoyed showing off her amazing City of San Francisco to anyone willing to take a tour, sharing her love for life with everyone.
