Police dispatchers received a crucial tip from a family member which revealed that the suspect, Michael Sparks, had admitted to killing two people and was threatening suicide.
Investigators obtained bags of human remains believed to be those of the Menards from underneath Sparks' home, marking a significant turn in the case from missing persons to homicide.
Michael Royce Sparks, 62, was charged with two counts of murder after being identified as the alleged killer of Dan Menard, 79, and Stephanie Menard, 73.
A vigil was held for the Menards at the Olive Dell Ranch nudist resort, attended by residents mourning the loss of the elderly couple believed to have been murdered by their neighbor.
