In July 2005, San Francisco witnessed an astonishing spectacle as 250,000 colorful bouncy balls tumbled down its hills, filmed for a Sony Bravia TV commercial. Directed by Nicolai Fuglsig, the event captivated audiences and won multiple advertising awards. Notably, much of the footage was achieved using practical effects with minimal CGI, including a carefully staged frog jump. The project emerged from a creative brief at Fallon ad agency and became a memorable illustration of the idea 'Colour like no other', resulting in 5 million YouTube views.
Filmed as a British commercial for Sony Bravia TV sets, 250,000 bouncy balls were launched down San Francisco hills in one of the most surreal weeks in the city's history.
Of course the frog was rigged, but the frog is real. Everything in the final cut was shot in-camera, down to that slow-motion frog jump set piece.
The project began with a brief prompt from creative director Juan Cabral at British ad agency Fallon that revolved around the slogan 'Colour like no other.'
It's early morning, millions of balls arrive in a city, millions of balls leave a city.
