The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency faces skepticism from residents but has adopted a 20-year Biking and Rolling Plan to connect bike lanes across the city. This plan aims to create a comprehensive bicycle network accessible to residents within a quarter-mile radius. While some parents express concerns about biking safety, the agency's goal is to enhance urban cycling infrastructure. SFMTA's Director of Streets emphasizes that this initiative is a vision for the future, referencing successful implementations in other cities that could inspire confidence from locals.
"I truly believe that if they build it they will come, as we've seen in other great cities around the world," said one supporter of the plan.
"I think the goal of the plan is to have a long term vision for what the bicycle network could look like in the future," explained Viktoriya Wise who is the SFMTA's Director of Streets.
"Many parents of my children's school have expressed to me the desire to bike with their children but they are afraid to do so without a connected network of bike lanes or protected bike lanes," expressed a parent.
Despite skepticism around the agency, the board unanimously adopted the city's Biking and Rolling Plan to create a continuous bike lane network across San Francisco.
