A pile of rubble in downtown San Jose caught fire on August 20, 2024, after two structures were bulldozed. The fire was reported at 9:49 a.m.
Fire officials indicated that the debris pile consisted of remains from two adjacent buildings that had been demolished earlier that day, igniting concerns among residents.
The second-alarm fire not only resulted in ongoing smoldering but also led to the evacuation of nearby residences and traffic disruptions on major streets.
Currently, while the fire has been largely contained, firefighters are monitoring the situation as the smoldering debris continues to pose potential hazards.
