Christina Bui, Chair of the Tully Road-Eastridge Business Association, emphasized the importance of considering micro businesses in the planning of the Business Improvement District. She expressed concern over their financial capacities and stated, "There's some of us who are really micro businesses, so my heart was on them and how much they're able to pay." The effort to create this district aims not only to increase foot traffic but also ensure that small businesses can thrive within the new economic model.
The initiative marks a significant move for the East San Jose area, with the city set to discuss the plan at the upcoming city council meeting. Notably, this would be the first Business Improvement District established in San Jose in 16 years. City officials and business leaders have worked collaboratively to include around 500 businesses in the area and tap into the local economy's potential. The focus lies on generating about $120,700 through assessed fees to fund improvements.
