A sea lion pup named Irving was found several blocks inland in San Francisco's Outer Sunset District. Trained responders from the Marine Mammal Center, along with police and park rangers, safely corralled Irving for transport. He was taken to a ranger station before being transferred to the Marine Mammal Center's hospital for evaluation and care. The reason for his unusual location remains unknown. The center emphasized the importance of keeping distance from marine mammals and reporting any in need.
