Cisco Systems has announced plans to cut approximately 7% of its global workforce, impacting around 5,900 employees, as part of a restructuring effort.
In 2023 and 2024, Cisco has already cut 1,754 jobs in the Bay Area, underlining ongoing layoffs affecting the regional economy and tech sector.
CEO Chuck Robbins highlighted that Cisco is beginning to pivot away from traditional networking, moving toward growth in AI and other leading-edge initiatives.
The cuts follow a previous round of layoffs this year, where 4,200 positions were eliminated globally, indicating a trend in workforce reductions within tech companies.
