Daniel Patrick Rodriguez faces murder and child endangerment charges after an alleged stabbing that killed a father as his 8-year-old son watched. The incident occurred shortly after the victim, Byrd, picked up his son from Commodore Sloat Elementary School. The boy’s mother and grandmother attended the court hearing; the grandmother, Gloria Berry, said the child has not returned to school and that she believes he tried to render first aid. Byrd had been in a 20-year relationship with the boy’s mother and was described as quiet. Rodriguez will return to court for arraignment; his lawyer requested hospital transfer for cancer treatment. A GoFundMe raised nearly $79,000 for the family.
