"Patrick Galvani's arrest in San Francisco comes after detectives reopened the case, Foster City police Chief Cory Call said in a news release. On Aug. 9, 1982, a fisherman found 36-year-old Nancy Galvani's body stuffed in a sleeping bag tied to a cinder block near the San Mateo Bridge. She died from asphyxiation. Despite extensive efforts over the years, the case remained unsolved until recent developments allowed investigators to move forward, Call said."
"He was arrested and charged with murder after Nancy's body was found, but prosecutors dropped the charges. In 1982, then-San Mateo County District Attorney Keith Sorenson told the San Francisco Examiner that prosecutors concluded they had less than a 50% chance of winning a conviction. I am not saying for a minute that he is innocent or didn't do it, Sorenson told the newspaper."
An 81-year-old man, Patrick Galvani, was arrested in San Francisco on suspicion of killing his estranged wife, 36-year-old Nancy Galvani, in August 1982 and dumping her body in San Francisco Bay. A fisherman found Nancy's body stuffed in a sleeping bag tied to a cinder block near the San Mateo Bridge; she died of asphyxiation. Detectives reopened the cold case, leading to the arrest; Patrick was booked into San Mateo County jail and held without bail. He had faced arrest and charges in 1982 that were later dropped due to prosecutors' low confidence in conviction. Nancy had sought a restraining order and filed for divorce, alleging abuse.
