Another Bay Area College Bar Is Now Closed
Briefly

San Francisco State University's Pub has permanently closed after 25 years due to slow business attributed to declining enrollment and changing drinking habits among students. Chris Farmer from the University Corporation noted that business has been slow in recent semesters, discussing possible reasons such as Gen Z's decreased drinking at bars. Meanwhile, chef Tyler Florence's popular Wayfare Tavern is set to close its current location and move to a new venue, indicating ongoing shifts in the local restaurant landscape.
The pub, being one of the services we oversee, has unfortunately gotten extremely slow in recent semesters. Whether you chalk up that slowness to a drop in enrollment for SF State, Gen Z drinking less at bars, or the rise of the sober curious movement, is up for debate.
Chef Tyler Florence's Wayfare Tavern will close at 558 Sacramento Street on March 27 and is set to reopen at 201 Pine Street in late April 2025.
