According to Goldenvoice, total complaints from Alameda and the East Bay went down from 203 last year to 80 this year, indicating improved noise management this time.
"It was a very low-frequency heavy bass sound," said Duboce Triangle resident Dean Morehouse, describing the frustrating experience of noise disturbance from the festival.
Despite better noise management, this year's Portola Festival sparked a rise in complaints from San Francisco residents, particularly on the final day of the event.
The Entertainment Commission praised Goldenvoice for lowering overall decibels by 2 during the festival, attributing the improvement to new equipment and configurations.
