Zillow has introduced a policy banning home listings that were first listed in private networks for over 24 hours from appearing on its platform. This move aims to maintain more inventory on public markets, countering the trend of private exclusives pushed by brokerages like Compass. Compass has significantly increased its off-market home inventory, prompting Zillow to act to prevent private listings from gaining market share. CoStar CEO Andy Florance criticized the policy as detrimental to home sellers, labeling it a bold misuse of Zillow's market power.
This week Zillow Executive Errol Samuelson announced that homes not listed on the MLS within 24 hours of public marketing-won't be published on Zillow 'for the life of the listing.'
