Belmont and South San Francisco have endorsed Measure A, which empowers the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors to terminate Sheriff Christina Corpus due to controversies surrounding her office. The endorsement comes after a contentious report that highlighted serious issues within the Sheriff's Office, although some council members voiced skepticism about its findings. This situation is concerning for local councils, as the operational effectiveness of the Sheriff's Department affects all cities in the county, emphasizing the interconnectedness of local law enforcement.
"When the county's law enforcement system is failing, it doesn't just impact the sheriff's department," said Belmont Mayor Julia Mates.
"Our police force closely interacts with the sheriff's department," said Redwood City Councilwoman Diane Howard during Monday's city council meeting.
