Santa Clara County officials are out of compliance with state housing laws, risking agricultural tourism as developments threaten to pave over valuable farmland in the Valley of Heart's Delight.
Projects could bypass local building rules under builder's remedy due to lack of a state-certified plan to build required affordable housing by 2031, jeopardizing agricultural land.
District 1 Supervisor Sylvia Arenas has proposed creating a new Office of Economic Development to enhance the agricultural brand in South County and protect farmland.
Arenas stated, 'I am committed to making sure that agricultural land stays agricultural, and developers are held fully accountable to comply with all laws.'
