San Mateo County to require quarterly reports on big-ticket purchases
Briefly

In response to a public outcry regarding a request from the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office for 10 massage chairs, the Board of Supervisors has unanimously passed a resolution that mandates quarterly reports on county purchases exceeding $100,000. Beginning in October, the procurement department is required to report on both high-value purchases and non-competitive procurements over $10,000. This measure is intended to bolster transparency and provide oversight on county spending, addressing concerns raised about previous spending proposals that lacked sufficient board scrutiny.
The resolution aims to improve transparency and give the board and the public regular insight into high-cost or sole-source procurements.
The board might eventually consider increasing the reporting frequency, but right now we're going to keep it simple.
