One potential casualty of uncertain federal funds: Mission teacher housing
Briefly

The Mission Economic Development Agency (MEDA) has been striving to develop 63 affordable apartments for teachers at 2205 Mission since 2017. A recent $12 million funding secured from Proposition I was a significant step forward, although potential federal funding freezes by the Trump administration pose threats to timelines. MEDA's original plans included a mix of commercial and residential spaces; however, recent changes in area income eligibility have necessitated a strategic redirect towards EPA funding. Despite the challenges, MEDA remains committed to delivering affordable housing options in the community.
MEDA finally secured the $12 million it needed to build the project via funds raised by Proposition I and dispersed by the Mayor's Office of Housing and Community Development.
If President Donald Trump successfully freezes millions of dollars in federal funds, though, the timeline could be longer.
MEDA then changed tactics, and applied for $15 million in funds from the Environmental Protection Agency in November, via the EPA's Community Change Grant.
The building on the site was most recently a 99 cent store, and has been a vacant eyesore for years.
