Mayor Lurie's fentanyl ordinance passes S.F. Board of Supervisors
Briefly

The San Francisco Board of Supervisors approved Mayor Daniel Lurie's fentanyl ordinance, which enhances his authority over contracts aimed at tackling drug, mental health, and homelessness issues. The ordinance raises the contract threshold for Board oversight from $10 million to $25 million until January 2026. In addition, it reduces the Board's oversight period for larger contracts. The measure aims to provide Lurie with necessary tools to address the fentanyl crisis efficiently, aligning with his campaign promises, despite some revisions prompted by Board members.
"The passage of his first piece of legislation gives us the tools to treat this crisis with the urgency it demands," wrote Lurie in a press statement.
With the passage of Lurie's ordinance, the threshold for contracts pertaining to homelessness, drug overdoses, and mental health needs is raised to $25 million.
