In a statement, Princess Cruises revealed that the 72-year-old man traveling alone was not found despite multiple searches and the review of closed-circuit television footage.
The U.S. Coast Guard's air station in Sacramento dispatched a C-27 aircrew to assist in searching the waters 45 miles off Monterey after the incident was reported.
The Ruby Princess, which had arrived in San Francisco following a five-day trip to Ensenada, was scheduled to depart for Hawaii just hours after the incident.
