The Ambassador Cruise Line ship is being held in Bordeaux after more than 49 passengers and crew fell ill from gastroenteritis. The woman, from Belfast, who wished to remain anonymous, boarded the ship, named Ambition, in Belfast on Friday. The ship then travelled to Liverpool the following day. It had originally been due to leave Bordeaux for Ferrol in Spain, before travelling to Gijon and Bilbao.
French authorities have confined more than 1,700 passengers and crew members to a cruise ship docked in Bordeaux after a passenger died from suspected norovirus, officials have said.
Earlier in day, the vessel docked at Lizard Island, a resort destination with a nature preserve some 20 miles off the Queensland coast. The woman was hiking Cook's Look peak there with other passengers, authorities said, but at some point separated from the group to take a break. She ultimately failed to board the ship, and the cruise liner set off at around sunset as scheduled, the Australian Broadcasting Company reported.
