Letters: Donald Trump's cuts to research will set the U.S. back
Briefly

The letter highlights significant concerns regarding President Trump's proposed budget cuts to the National Science Foundation (NSF), which are set to exceed 50%, jeopardizing crucial scientific research in the U.S. The NSF is vital for foundational research that fuels innovation in technology and science. The repercussions of these cuts could lead to the U.S. lagging behind other countries, especially China, which is increasingly investing in similar fields. The letter also critiques law enforcement's overreach in managing peaceful protests, calling for adherence to constitutional rights.
The National Science Foundation finances much of the scientific research that takes place in the United States, and it is being hit hard with a more than 50% budget cut without an alternative plan.
With the cost being much less in China, the net impact is much greater. Our leaders in the House and Senate represent the people and must act and restore most of the cuts.
While judges can control behavior in their courts, no judge has the authority or the right to outlaw peaceful expression outside the building.
Declaring this protest illegal is itself illegal and scandalous.
