Early on April 13, 2025, an arson fire broke out at the Pennsylvania Governor's Residence in Harrisburg, prompting the evacuation of Governor Josh Shapiro and his family. The incident occurred at around 2 a.m., with state police alerting the family to the situation. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and the fire was contained thanks to the swift action of the Harrisburg Bureau of Fire and law enforcement. Governor Shapiro expressed gratitude for the first responders who ensured the safety of his family during this dangerous event.
Last night at about 2 AM, my family and I woke up to bangs on the door from the Pennsylvania State Police after an arsonist set fire to the Governor's Residence in Harrisburg. Thank God no one was injured and the fire was extinguished.
We are eternally grateful to the first responders who ran towards danger to protect our communities. Last night, they did so for our family.
