FBI agents visited Jack Avery’s home after seeking to speak with him, telling his family he had not done anything wrong and that he was believed to be a victim. The FBI explained that someone hired someone to kill him. On May 20, Avery’s ex-girlfriend and the mother of his child, Gabriela Gonzalez, was arrested and charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and solicitation of murder. Prosecutors allege that Gonzalez, along with her father Francisco Gonzalez and ex-boyfriend Kai Faron Cordrey, plotted to kill Avery between 2020 and 2021. Avery later posted a statement on Instagram emphasizing his silence for the legal process and for his daughter. Prosecutors allege Francisco Gonzalez sent Cordrey $10,000 to hire a hit man during a custody dispute, with each defendant facing up to 25 years in state prison if convicted.
"Two agents came to the former Why Don't We member and current solo artist's house looking to talk to him. "Jack hasn't done anything wrong," the agents told his mom. "We think he's a victim of something." The FBI went on to explain to Avery and his family that "someone hired someone" to kill him."
