San Mateo County Superintendent of Schools Nancy Magee dies
"We are grateful for Nancy's many years of leadership and she will always be in our hearts."
"Magee had been a classroom teacher for 20 years and then moved to the county office of education. She moved up to the position of associate superintendent of student services."
"In the June 2 election, candidates Chelsea Bonini and Hector Camacho Jr. are vying for the position of county superintendent."
"Bonini is a second-grade classroom teacher, an attorney and a member of the county Board of Education. Questions have arisen about whether she holds the correct credential to serve as superintendent."
Nancy Magee, the San Mateo County Superintendent of Schools, has died at the age of 66 after a battle with an undisclosed illness. She had announced her retirement in February. Acting Superintendent Marco A. Chavez confirmed her passing was peaceful, surrounded by family. Magee had a 20-year career as a classroom teacher before becoming associate superintendent of student services and was elected superintendent in 2018, re-elected in 2022. Candidates Chelsea Bonini and Hector Camacho Jr. are competing for the position in the upcoming election, with Magee endorsing Camacho prior to her death.
