Peninsula cops cleared in shooting of armed man last fall
Briefly

Two police officers in Burlingame will not face criminal charges for shooting an armed man, Sergio Trujillo-Ayala, deemed justified by the San Mateo County District Attorney. The incident occurred on Nov. 30, 2024, when officers encountered Trujillo-Ayala, who was fidgety and under the influence of methamphetamine. After a confrontation, Trujillo-Ayala pointed a gun at the officers, leading them to shoot him with lethal force. Trujillo-Ayala survived and was treated for injuries at a local hospital.
District Attorney Steve Wagstaffe concluded that San Mateo police Officer Manfrield Ng and Burlingame police Officer Sascha Koch were justified in their use of lethal force against Sergio Trujillo-Ayala.
Trujillo-Ayala was found standing on the train tracks...holding his gun under his chin, and when he ignored commands to drop it, officers acted to protect themselves.
