In San Mateo County, early election results indicate that approximately 85% of voters favor Measure A, which could enable the board of supervisors to remove Sheriff Cristina Corpus from office. The sheriff faces accusations of fostering a culture of intimidation, retaliation, and having an improper relationship with her Chief of Staff. Despite denying these claims and calling the election a political maneuver against her, the outcome may lead to significant challenges regarding Measure A's constitutionality, as indicated by Corpus's attorney amid ongoing vote counts.
"I'm being crucified in the public eye for allegations," Corpus told ABC7.
If Measure A passes it would then allow the county supervisors to vote the sheriff out.
Election crews were up until about midnight Tuesday counting the votes and there are still more to be counted.
But based on the last batch of results reported from San Mateo County, about 85% of voters said 'yes' while just under 15% rejected measure A.
