In Antioch, California, a mother was arrested after four children, including a 2-year-old wandering outside, were found in an uninhabitable home. Officers conducted a welfare check and discovered three additional children inside the unlocked residence, all left without adult supervision. The Contra Costa Fire Department's hazmat team declared the home uninhabitable. Following an evaluation, the children were placed into custody of Child and Family Services. The 36-year-old mother was arrested later in the day on child abuse-related charges.
Officers responded to a welfare check just before 5 p.m. on the 2000 block of Spruce Way after a passerby reported finding a 2-year-old child outside their home.
Upon entering the unlocked residence, officers say they found three additional children, with no adults present. The children were transported to nearby hospitals for evaluation.
The house was determined to be uninhabitable after tests conducted by the Contra Costa Fire Department's hazmat team.
The 36-year-old mom arrived at the residence later that day and was placed under arrest on child abuse-related charges.
