Elaine McKinley, a 79-year-old woman, went missing while hiking with her partner and friends in Portola Valley. After she rushed ahead of the group, her partner, Kit Durgin, contacted the authorities when she did not return. The San Mateo County Sheriff's Office launched a search that amassed over 3,000 miles covered by volunteers and officials. Despite ongoing efforts, McKinley remains missing. The sheriff's office has urged locals to review their security footage for any clues, and Sheriff Christina Corpus emphasized the commitment of the trained search teams and the hope of locating McKinley.
Over the last 72 hours, approximately 3,000 total miles have been tracked by searches on ground, either by car or on foot.
I want to personally thank our dedicated volunteers and personnel. They have not wavered in their commitment, and we are indebted to them.
We remain hopeful. The specialized training of the volunteers doing the search makes us confident that they will find her.
Residents are encouraged to check their cameras day and night, starting on Thursday 10 a.m., to report any sightings or information.
