The Dublin Unified School District is recommending expulsion for three students after a violent brawl at Dublin High on February 20. The fight resulted in two students requiring hospitalization and involved a girl being knocked unconscious, with many other students witnessing and recording the incident. The superintendent, Greg Funk, indicated that the fight originated from family issues that influenced the students' behavior on campus. Following the incident, five students were suspended and attendance dropped due to fears of potential retaliation; however, rumors of armed response were unfounded. The school board will decide on the expulsions.
"Following an investigation into the event and review of available evidence, three students have been recommended for expulsion," Funk wrote in an email to the district community Monday.
"For confidentiality reasons, we will not be sharing the names of those students."
"I want to be clear that the recommendation is just that, a recommendation," Funk wrote.
"The fight stemmed from issues between two families, which followed the students onto campus."
