Former Representative George Santos of New York was overwhelmingly rebuked by his colleagues, including members of his own party, in a vote to expel him from Congress. Democrats voted unanimously to kick him out after a federal indictment on fraud charges and accusations of lying, while Republicans were divided.
Republicans on the House Ethics Committee, as well as some New York delegation members and mainstream conservatives, joined Democrats in voting to oust Santos. They viewed his presence as an embarrassment and feared the political repercussions of being associated with him. [ more ]
